On behalf of the EMWA Executive Committee, we have great pleasure in welcoming you to the 46th EMWA Conference at the Barceló Sants Hotel in Barcelona, Spain from Tuesday 1 May to Saturday 5 May 2018.
The EMWA Professional Development Committee has prepared a comprehensive education programme, with 50 workshops - 32 foundation and 18 advanced level ones, covering a broad range of topics.
Important developments have taken place in the field of medical devices recently due to changes in the European legislation and have led to an increased demand for medical writers who are knowledgeable about this highly challenging area. We are therefore proud to announce the 6th EMWA one-day symposium entitled ‘Medical devices and technologies – Emerging opportunities for Medical Communicators’.
The Symposium targets regulatory writers and medical communicators alike and will provide the perspectives of different stakeholders, including legislators, notified bodies, medical device companies, patent representatives, and reimbursement professionals. On this occasion, we will be launching a new special interest group on medical devices in order to stimulate future discussions on the latest trends and requirements in this fast changing field.
For experienced members, four expert seminars series on Wednesday and Friday will cover some of the most recent developments in medical writing including revisions in the regulation guidance for risk management plans, the background, regulatory, and patients related aspects of orphan drugs and rare disorders, data protection and EMA Policy 0070, clinical trial registries and clinical study reports for Cochrane reviews, and a session on medical journalism. In the afternoon, there will be a pharmacovigilance roundtable discussion on Wednesday and a regulatory public disclosure update session on Friday.
The conference will also host an early morning seminar on “Disaster recovery plans”, an Internship Forum, a “Show IT, Share IT, Rise & Shine” session, an introduction to medical writing presentation for new writers and those considering joining the profession, and our well-established freelance business forum.
Delegates can start their day with easy morning yoga, join interactive short seminars for a quick ‘English’ fix, take part in a mindfulness session for medical writers, and choose from a range of exciting evening social events in Barcelona. We should also not forget to take time to relax and chat at the post annual meeting networking event. There really is something for everyone.
We would like to thank our head office, the workshop and seminar leaders, the symposium moderators, and all of the EMWA committee members and volunteers who have been working for many months to bring you this conference.
We wish you all an interesting and enjoyable conference.
